The holidays are upon us and there is no shortage of hustle and bustle in my studio. During my 9 day Thanksgiving break, 6 New Arrivals babies blessed the world just in time for the most magical time of year. What makes last weekends two newborn sessions so special is, the 3 babies are all cousins! Three precious Christmas gifts for two wonderful families. When both moms contacted me this fall, I would have put my money on the twins arriving first but low and behold they came two days after their equally adorable girl cousin. Both newborn sessions had elements of the Christmas season with the twins having custom hats made by Sweet Sugar Stitches. Thank you ladies for helping me kick of the holiday season with some of the sweetest faces around. It will be exciting to see what we come up with for the next 3 newborn sessions this month which will sure to be filled with more holiday cheer!
If this doesn't give you a hankering for a sticky and sweet stack of pancakes for your Sunday breakfast, I don't know what will! I have been dreaming about this Cake Smash Session ever since I ordered his cake (yes, that's actually a cake) by the talented Renea's Great Cakes and Cupcakes. When his mom showed me his lumberjack shirt, I knew exactly the set I wanted to create. What a way to end his 1st year Baby Bundle Package. He's my second ever Baby Bundle client, which is my rewards system when you book (newborn, 3, 6 and 9 months, you get your cake smash session for half-off).
I have to admit, when I first started my business, I was not super fond of the cake smash session. It's definitely my most challenging age group but I've since changed my tune. Now, I really LOVE them because it's a chance to let my creative juices flow and create adorable sets for my perfect one year old models. Not to mention, having an amazing baker to help your dreams come true!
As my slow season is inching it's way more near and I close for the holidays, I can't help but to look forward to my last couple cake smash sessions in December and for the many I know that will come in the new year!
My little "show stopping" star model was back in the studio today to melt all your hearts!!! It had been so long since I last had this doll face in my studio and I was so very excited to whip up one of my "signature theme sessions." I cannot believe she is TWO!!! This little lady has held such a special spot in my heart and I have watched her grow and my work evolve through the last two years or photographing her. We have many more tricks up our sleeves this fall for her, just you wait and see what fun she will bring to my studio!
I'ts official, fall has definitely arrived in Ohio a couple weeks ahead of schedule. If I didn't love being warm and at the beach so much, fall would be my favorite season. The colors, the smells, the food, all the feels, it's a season that so many Midwest folks adore! I couldn't help but get wrapped up in all the cool air buzz and collect my fall props for this oh-so-cute, rustic themed, 6th month milestone session.
Child photography of course takes creativity, patience, and skill but it also involves a lot of LUCK! Boy, did I get lucky with this handsome boy, he smiled from ear to ear for nearly 25 minutes. Yes, you read that correct, his session lasted less than 30 minutes and I captured cute photo after cute photo. He was an absolute joy to have back in my studio. It had been 6 very fast months since he was snuggled up with his parents in my studio for his newborn session. I can't wait to see what will be in store for us, when his birthday rolls around this winter. Shhhh Ashley, don't say winter!
Dare I say that fall is in the air? We may not be ready for it but the last week has been more cool & crisp than hot & steamy for late August. You can't blame me then for wanting to jump into fall portraits. On my parents farm the peaches have ended their juicy reign and the cheeky apples are making their comeback with a powerful punch. This red delicious tree that I chose for her images is packed with tons of apples ready to become sauce in the next couple of months. This doll face was the perfect addition to the orchard! She was bright and twinkly eyed and the most adorable model. She arrived to her Cake Smash session still drowsy from a nap and it only took a little bit of time for her to get to know my camera and let her cute self shine through. We hopped about my parents farm taking 12 month portraits in various places and ending our session among the Wisteria vines that line a sandstone walkway with a private Cake Smash table for ONE!
Today is so very exciting, the 100th new family came to the studio this morning for their session!!!!! They had no idea when they arrived that they were the lucky recipients of a special treat, one that I know they will take advantage of in the future. AND as a thank you to all of my amazing 99 families before them, I am offering a contest drawing for you to win your very own $100 gift certificate to be used for the session of your choosing with me this next year! Love is in the air! If you ever need to feel all warm and fuzzy inside, just find yourself a pair of going-to-be new parents! The anticipation of an upcoming "new arrival" creates the most joyful photographs between husbands and wives. Doesn't this photo make you want to hug and squeeze the nearest person??? This maternity session was more than I could have expected. We designed this session around their beautiful Lakewood home, taking advance of their "not so common" large backyard. It was an absolutely beautiful evening with the sun streaming through the cascading trees which made for the most magical backdrop for this radiant mother-to-be. It was a real treat to be able to capture the pure joy between this couple in the comfort of their home. After their session we found ourselves talking about the many things we had in common, I felt like I had know them for years! I really really want to do more maternity sessions like this in the future. It will be a pleasure to have them in the studio in just a couple short months and I guarantee they will be the "best mom and dad ever!"
Can I just say how much I LOVE this image, how adorable!! Not only is this precious little peanut too cute for words but her Aunt made these one of a kind animals with interchangeable clothing. We had an entire box to choose from, these only being 4 of them, what fun she will have playing with them in the years to come! I always fall head over heels in love with newborn sessions that are personal and sentimental, this was off the charts dreamy!
I have been completely booked for weeks on end with endless hours of editing and session prep work. Strangely enough, not many of those sessions have been newborns but rather last summers babies having Cake Smash sessions. When her mom reached out to me for this last minute newborn session, I couldn't help but get her on my calendar, it was so relaxing to have a tiny baby in the studio again. She is the start of a Fall baby boom ahead with newborn sessions galore and I cannot wait to meet her "future boyfriend" who will be here in my studio in one short week!
Practice makes perfect!
Although Maternity and Newborn photography are my specialties, I have had no shortage of families requesting Family Sessions this year. This family in particular, has been waiting for this session since last December!! Purchased as a Christmas gift, we had planned on a spring session which got rained out not once, not twice but THREE times! I have never had to reschedule a session more than once, let alone twice! We couldn't have had a better evening at Lakewood Park. The temperature was pleasant, a refreshing subtle breeze kept us from sweating and the lake was beautiful with the sun being slightly hazed by clouds. I am so very thrilled that I was given this opportunity to capture this beautiful and fun family after so many months of preparation. Family sessions may be a newer experience for me but for this family it was practically perfect in every way!
This is entry is short & sweet. I have no words for how beautiful this picture is. It brought me to tears when I captured it and produced even more tears as I was editing! How beautiful the world is through the eyes of a Mother, as she patiently awaits the New Arrival of her most precious gift! We were blessed with the most amazing, windy evening tonight on the beach for this Maternity Session and I as I sit here typing, I am speechless!
