March came in like a lion with baby boys being born and has definitely gone out like a lamb with many baby girls arriving and due just in time for spring! This winter I have had a flux of new parents who have requested for in-home newborn photographs. Typically, in-home sessions also coined lifestyle sessions are more natural and less staged but I have had multiple clients that didn't want to make the journey to my studio this winter and spring for newborn portraits but instead requested that I do them in the comfort of their own home. I very willingly agreed and I am pleased to say that I have gotten truly amazing results only bringing along my off-camera flash, shoot through umbrella, and space heater. For this session her parents had the most perfect, soft cushion that we used for the majority of the posed newborn portraits and I brought along the color of wraps mom requested, turquoise and purples. Not only were we very fortunate for a sleeping baby for the newborn portraits but we were also able to get amazing candid family photographs with the brand new mommy and daddy! I truly love this session, I say that A LOT (I know)! Each week, I say that I wish I had photographs just like these of my own new family and how lucky each of the families are for having these images to cherish forever!
BABY it's cold outside! In January, I held a model search for a Cleveland winter Maternity Session. I took down 4 names of area models who were willing to brave having bare arms in the dead of winter surrounded by heaping piles of snow. I ordered the maternity dress and scarf to match and then we all patiently (and I mean patiently) waited for a good snowfall. We've had a particularly unusual, less snow, kind of winter. I got one opportunity in February but the snow had melted during the night of my planned morning session. When it snowed this week after being unseasonably warm and in the 70's in February, I pulled every string I could and squeezed in this VERY last minute session. I didn't want to take any chances that we might not get anymore snow this winter. So my elementary school friend (who happens to live a handful of blocks from me) and I hopped in my car and scooted down to the Rocky River Reservation. As some of you recall, that is my favorite spot for fall family photo sessions and it didn't disappoint for this winter Maternity Session. Andi and I braved (more her than me) the arctic 20+ degree temps as we hurried around the park snapping pictures, putting coats and gloves on and off, and hopping in the warm car for a brief moment to thaw before scurrying to another spot around the golf course. You would have absolutely no idea looking at these photographs that I was shivering with every click of my shutter as Andi made each picture look as warm as summer! She did a fantastic job and I'm in complete disbelief that I didn't have to edit a red nose in a single photo! These images are helping me round out my Maternity Session Portfolio that will offer images from every season outdoors as well as my In-studio Maternity Sessions.
Have you ever wondered where I find the unique crochet pieces that the babies of New Arrivals wear? They are hand crafted by fellow Northeast Ohioan, Michelle Moreno of Sweet Sugar Stitches. I first met Michelle when I joined a Cleveland West side moms group four years ago. We are now close friends and her and I Co-lead the non-profit 501c3 group called More than Moms. I am a HUGE advocate of supporting local businesses and especially ones that support moms in the workplace. As I became a mother, I struggled with self worth and needed to find a way to allow my talents to help provide for my family. I started my photography business and she started an Etsy shop where she sells her beautiful crochet pieces. I cannot say enough good things about the unique products she offers that have been featured in my photography. They are the perfect way to personalize your session to be "one of a kind." I encourage anyone who is planning a session this year to ask her to custom make any crochet piece you dream up. Below are a few of my favorite cuties in her works of art!
